How to set up webhooks in DecisionVault

DecisionVault can send an HTTP POST webhook request when something happens in your workspace. Any tool that can receive webhooks can pick these up to trigger workflows like Zapier, Make (formerly Integromat), n8n, or your own custom endpoint. If you use Zapier, also check out our dedicated Zapier app, covered in the article "How to use DecisionVault with Zapier".

To enable Webhooks, you must go to Settings > Integrations > scroll down to the Workflow Automation. From Webhooks click "Set up webhooks".

Then click on Turn on to access the webhooks dashboard.

The webhooks dashboard has four tabs:

  • Endpoints: add and manage the endpoints DecisionVault delivers events to, and monitor each endpoint's error rate.
  • Event Catalog: browse every event you can subscribe to (listed below), with the payload each one sends.
  • Logs: the message log of every event sent, with its event type, message ID, and timestamp. You can filter the list or jump to a specific message.
  • Activity: a report of recent delivery attempts to your endpoints, showing successful and failed deliveries over time.

To add an endpoint, click Add Endpoint and fill in the Endpoint URL (where DecisionVault should send the events), an optional Description, and the events you want to subscribe to. Each endpoint can subscribe to its own set of events.

You can subscribe an endpoint to any of these events:

  • intakeform.created: the matter is created by the firm. This fires whether or not a client is ever invited (for example, matters where staff complete the intake on the client's behalf).
  • intakeform.started: the client creates an account and begins filling out the intake form.
  • intakeform.submitted: the intake form is submitted for the first time.
  • intakeform.resubmitted: the intake form is submitted again after updates.
  • intakeform.completed: the intake form is marked as complete by the firm.
  • meetingtemplate.completed: a meeting template is marked as complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tools can receive DecisionVault webhooks?

Any service that accepts an HTTP POST request: automation platforms like Zapier, Make, and n8n, or a custom endpoint your team builds. If you use Zapier, our dedicated Zapier app offers instant triggers and actions without setting up endpoints yourself.

What can my firm use webhooks for?

Anything you'd normally do by hand after something happens in DecisionVault. Some examples firms use: post a message in your team's Slack or Teams channel the moment a client submits their questionnaire; create a task or matter in your practice management tool when a new matter is created; kick off document drafting when the meeting template is completed; add a row to a tracking spreadsheet when a client starts their intake; or send a thank-you email sequence from your CRM after submission. Pick the event from the list above, and let your automation tool do the rest.

How can I check whether my webhooks are being delivered?

Open the webhooks dashboard. The Logs tab lists every message sent with its event type, message ID, and timestamp, and the Activity tab shows successful and failed delivery attempts over time. The Endpoints tab shows an error rate per endpoint.

Can I send different events to different endpoints?

Yes. You can add multiple endpoints, and each endpoint chooses its own set of events to subscribe to.

How do I turn webhooks off?

Open the webhooks dashboard and click Turn Off Webhooks in the top right. You can turn them back on at any time.
