How to customize your standard links (questionnaire URLs)

Standard links are the links your clients use to create an account and start one of your questionnaires. You will find them on your Dashboard, together with the firm portal login link clients use to log back into their account. Each standard link is made of two parts you can customize: your firm short name and a questionnaire short name (for example: decisionvault.com/open/your-firm-name/questionnaire-name). The portal login link uses the firm short name too: decisionvault.com/login/your-firm-name.

Firm administrators can change both short names at any time. Go to Settings > Firm > Standard Links. From there you can update the firm and questionnaires names that show up in your questionnaire URL.

Change your firm short name

Type the new name in the Change the Firm Short Name field and click Save. This updates the first part of every questionnaire link and the portal login link as well. The firm short name must be at least 5 characters and unique across DecisionVault. If it saves with numbers added at the end, the name you chose was already taken.

Change a questionnaire short name

Scroll down to Questionnaire Links. Each questionnaire shows its unique link and a field to change its short name. Type the new short name and click Save. This changes only that questionnaire's link and the other questionnaires and the portal login link stay the same.

Note: When you change a short name, the old link stops working immediately. Share the new link with your clients, and update it anywhere the old one appears like your website, your email templates, and any bookmarks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to the old link after I change it?

It stops working immediately. Anyone who opens the old link will not reach your questionnaire, so update your website, saved email templates, and bookmarks and resend the new link to clients who have not started yet.

Why did my firm short name save with numbers at the end?

The name you chose was already in use by another firm. Short names must be unique and at least 5 characters, try a longer or more distinctive name and save again.

Does changing a link affect existing matters or client accounts?

No. Only the URL changes and the matters, answers, and client accounts are not affected. Keep in mind that changing the firm short name also changes the portal login link, so returning clients with an old bookmark will need the new one.

Where do I find my standard links to share?

On your Dashboard. Each questionnaire has its standard link with a copy button, and the firm portal login link is listed below them.
